Conditions treated by an OMS surgeon

Posted on 5/23/2022 by Pacific Oral and Facial Surgery Center
Conditions treated by an OMS surgeonAn OMS surgeon diagnoses and treats dental conditions affecting the oral cavity, maxilla area, face, neck and head. These dental professionals use invasive or non-invasive approaches to treat these ailments. They are highly trained to correct deformities and realign or bring symmetry to the facial bones and manage the risks involved in the operation.

what can an OMS do

Teeth extractions may be the most common procedures for which one would get sent to the OMS. An OMS surgeon aids in the extraction of wisdom teeth or impacted teeth that are too complex for a dentist to extract. Impacted and misaligned wisdom teeth may be painful and uncomfortable and bring dangerous infections to the gum of supporting bone.

OMS surgeons help treat facial traumas or injuries that leave the skull, neck, face, and oral bones broken or fractured. In an accident, an OMS can realign a dislocated jawbone and surgically remove debris. They help routinely manage and provide care for patients suffering from lacerations. TMJ disorders are treated by an OMS surgeon either surgically or non-surgically. TMJ disorder is characterized by painful sensations, especially facial or jaw joint movements. An OMS provides treatment using incisions (an invasive procedure), injections (non-invasive method) or therapy. An OMS helps provide relief and restore or improve functionality.

OMS surgeons offer orthodontic surgeries for jaw abnormalities. Abnormalities that cause bite or speech problems and may also cause sleep apnea. Orthognathic surgery helps realign the jaws and bring symmetry. They also help treat congenital anomalies in children, for example, cleft lip and palate conditions.

OMS surgeons also offer cosmetic surgery to correct facial and maxilla abnormalities and provide an aesthetic purpose to patients. Cosmetic procedures like Botox, rhinoplasties and liposuctions help boost patients' confidence. They also treat and remove tumors, malignant or benign, from the mouth, face, neck and head.
